Homemade Valentine Gifts
Homemade Valentine gifts are often also very cheap Valentine's Day gifts. Homemade romantic gifts can be as much a gift of love as something you spend hundreds to buy.
When should you start thinking about Valentine gifts? Once New Year’s Day is over and you’ve put away the holiday decorations, it’s time to begin thinking about the next romantic date on the calendar.
Valentine's Day has become a day in which we bestow gifts of flowers, cards and sweets to those that we love.
However, showing your love does not have to be costly. In fact, since Valentine’s Day started being celebrated, thrifty souls have found ways to say “I love you” with homemade Valentine gifts.
Some people even start a new tradition by going back to their roots and making homemade Valentine gifts as they did as children.
For those of you that are looking for something easy for children to do, there is that staple made of construction paper and glitter…the heart. Nothing will be cherished more than a simple red paper heart covered glitter, with “I Love You” scrawled out in childish writing. To make it perfect, cut a hole in the middle of it, add the child’s picture and a magnet on the back and you can bestow a refrigerator decoration that will be on display of years to come. Older children can write or find a poem that depicts their feelings and thoughts about the object of their Valentine wishes. Write it out on a piece of blank paper, slightly burn the edges, and Ta-Da! You have a perfect, ready-to-frame masterpiece. For a homemade Valentine gift for your own parents, your children’s teacher or just the neighbor next door that you’ve grown close to, it may be a great idea to make a treat jar. Simply find your favorite cookie recipe, a Mason jar with a canning lid and ring, and a four-inch round piece of themed fabric. Measure out all the dry ingredients of the recipe and put them in the jar. Next, put the fabric on the lid and screw the ring on tight. Using a piece of twine or ribbon, attach a tag on which you have written the recipe on one side and a cute little saying or poem on the other, and tie it around the neck of the jar. This makes a warm, loving gift. If you’re looking for a more romantic gift, create a “coupon book” for your significant other. The coupons can include ideas such as a free oil massage, one full day child-free, an “all about you” night. The list can go on and on for ideas for you coupons depending on what you and your significant other enjoy. The ideas are endless when it comes to showing those we care about a little token of our love, devotion and appreciation for all they do. Putting the time and effort into making homemade Valentine gifts gives each gift more meaning. Anyone can buy a bouquet of flowers on the way home from work, or a box of chocolates that melts in the car on the way home. However, something you take the time to make shows that you were thinking of them much longer than it took to use a debit card. Making homemade Valentine gifts for those you care about shows that you are willing to go the extra mile, and that you realize and notice aspects of them that they may not even realize you see.
